What is YSUN? YSUN is a platform that gathers Syrian young architects and urbanists to discuss, exchange ideas, analyze and produce a range of knowledge forms related to sustainable just urbanism. The platform is there to collectively reflect on the future of Syrian cities.

Given the multi-layered gaps the architectural and urban fields are challenged by in Syria, and the exclusion of the Syrian population from being engaged in the creative processes of developing their own built environment, Syrbanism believes that advancing participatory recovery processes in the context of conflict is the first step for achieving social and urban justice in Syria. The creation of a community that includes multi-disciplinary, urban and architecture practitioners, professionals, academics, and experts, etc.
specialized in the Syrian context, and with special focus on youth, supports in shifting the classical role of the younger Syrian generations by allowing it to change, expand and carry further the means and values for achieving a socially and environmentally just future for all cities in Syria. By catalyzing different urban topics and reaching out to the public through knowledge management and sensitization of urban rights, the network can start influencing urban policies and decision-making in Syria through bottom-up approaches and correspondence to needs and people’s current realities.
